Fan Interview, meet Gavin Ebden

Last night I had the pleasure of chatting to Gavin Ebden, who grew up in.the football era of the early Cape Town City, Hellenic, Cape Town Spurs and Glenville.

Gavin was born in District Six, stayed in Bonteheuwel for 18 years and is currently a resudent of Strandfontien.

He is a fan of Ajax Cape Town from day 1 when Cape Town Spurs and Seven Stars combined to form Ajax Cape Town. He as at the first match played at the old Green Point Stadium in 1999 vs Ajax Amsterdam and recalls how Benni McCarthy played one half for each team.

Lance: The Ajax vs Chiefs fixture  is always exciting  and action packed no matter if we play home or away. What is your views on the match and result?

Gavin: I thought that with new signings Cheeseboy and Mayambela being given starts we might give the mighty Amakhosi a run for their money.  It was not to be.

If Nathan’s 2nd minute chance had gone in, we could’ve had them under pressure.

Our defence was a bit suspect in the buildup to both goals. We waited too long to take Nathan off.

Lance : Currently, Nathan  is our top goal  scorer  do you think our other strikers are playing  their part in supporting  roles?

Gavin: Last season Prince nearly took the PSL top goalscorer award!

Imagine him & current top scorer, Nathan, together in attack.Lots of critics disagree that the partnership would work, as they both out and out no 9s, target men.

Composure in the final third of the field has been lacking especially by players like Bantu, Tokkie, etc.

Lance: So far this season our beloved  Urban  Warriors have been unable to win a match.  What  could possibly  be the  problem? Or should we have expected  this type of  start with the  new  players coming  in and  the loss of some experienced players

Gavin: We haven’t performed too bad it’s just that in football the luck needs to go your way.

Hopefully we’ll turn the corner soon, although I think we should use the new youngsters as well.

There seems to be consensus amongst most fans that coach Roger must go, because the total style of football Ajax has been renowned for is nowhere to be seen since Roger took over.

Lance: The AJAXCTFANS  are divided  on the  topic of Roger De Sa,  some say  he should be fired and others say the  players are the problem. What does Roger need to do to fix the first team?

Gavin: Roger should hand Jody the gloves, also bring in the youngsters that came through the academy.

He must change the team around a bit, and make his subs quicker, possibly halftime when he sees we have our backs against the wall.

Let’s put Mich d’avery in charge of the first team and Roger can assist, maybe that could work out better.

Lance: That is an interesting  view I did not see that comingIn closing  what message do you have  for the club.

Gavin: Ari should restructure from top down and be more hands-on where the fans are concerned, mingle more with us, sit with us, plan with us for the future because without us there’s no Ajax Cape Town.

Thank you for your time and see you in block 116 at the next home fixture #WeAreAjaxCT
