New Ajax Cape Town signing Mark Mayambela says he is looking forward linking up with Lebohang ‘Cheeseboy’ Mokoena at the club.
Both Mayambela and Mokoena were signed by Ajax before the close of the transfer window last week, adding attacking midfield options to the Urban Warriors’ squad.
Mayambela says he was inspired by ‘Cheeseboy’ before he turned professional and cannot wait to play in the same team as the former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns attacker.
“‘Cheeseboy’ is a great player. I used to watch him, as he turned pro before I did, and he was a great player, and still is. I’m a fan of players like him: players with flair – that’s what South Africans are all about,” Mayambela told Kick-Off.
The former Bloemfontein Celtic man added, “He has a lot of experience and can also help in the team on and off the field.
“He’s been there, and this is also an opportunity not to just silence the critics but showcase what he has gained through the years and enjoy himself.”
Mayambela is also looking forward to playing the ‘elder pro’ role at Ajax, using his experience to help guide the club’s up-and-coming players.
“I believe I can help the youngsters here grow, and teach them about things that happen in the game, and try help them reach their goals and beyond,” the midfielder explained.
“But I’m still a player, and still have my duties on the pitch, and help the team achieve its goals and ambitions.”
