Ajax Cape Town assistant coach Mich D’Avray has confirmed the sale of goalkeeper Anssi Jaakkola to English Championship side Reading, and says the deal suits all parties concerned.
“As we speak Anssi is having a medical for Reading. I don’t believe the deal has been finalised but I don’t foresee any hiccups in him joining,” D’Avray said.
“It’s a good move for him. He’s done well for the club, he’s got aspirations, I think his wife is from Scotland and she’ll be closer to home, which will be nice.
“It’s also a good move for the club because we’ve got a couple of really good young goalkeepers [Jody February and Brandon Petersen]. I’ve spoken to coach Roger de Sa and he agrees the two boys are ready to challenge for the number one jersey.”
Later Reading shared a statement that they have signed the Ajax Cape Town player on a 2 year deal and for a undisclosed fee.
We will miss Anssi and wish him well in his career as he has served the Red and White with distinction. Jody and Brandon have big poles to fill but are up for the challenge.
